BASALTITE®

La Basaltite® is a medium-grey stone with some crystals of leucite immersed in a microcrystalline structure, derived from the hardening of lava in the eruption centre of Bolsena – Bagnoregio.

The noble grey colour of Basaltite® matches perfectly with all materials, modern or antique, like steal, wood, glass and aluminium, emphasizing their beauty and use. With its compact structure, this stone does not necessarily need to be filled, contrarily to other lavastones with large open-hole structure.

24 Years of activity

Looking at the world stone panorama, it is easy to see that rocks of volcanic origin are fairly rare as sources of ornamental stones… yet this is the case with Volsinia Basalt (specifically Basaltite® and Basaltina® stone varieties), one of the few volcanic rocks to have proved suitable use as ornamental stone and whose image is linked both to a centuries – old historic artistic heritage of incomparable value and to a modern presence on international markets…. Volsinia Basalt is nowadays extracted from a very few quarries, all located around Bolsena lake (Basaltite) and the town of Bagnoregio (Basaltina)”.
